it happened – and we are extremely happy with it! as announced in out initial pattern-post ‘on patterns‘ back in may 017 we are committed to changing the background pattern of our website. every once in a while. to be honest, we planned to have it changed more often. every two months seemed like a pretty decent schedule. not too wild, not to boring. turns out, reality messed it all up. a detail called workload in relationship with something called work-life-balance simply did not allow to perform this change any earlier. and as much as we like patterns and freshing up the website with a little something, we believe in life after work. lots of it.
the new pattern is titled octopattern – since we are in the lovely month of october and we worship bond, james bond (that would be octopussy). it has a less clean approach to it, giving the site a far more organic look than the previous pattern. the white rectangles are not perfectly shaped and have a very subtle texture, reminiscent of cushions and making you want to lie down. at least that is what it reminds us of. and that also reflects the meaning that we transport with this new pattern. don’t take things too hard! the pattern originates from the inside view of the sunshade in an 86 rv. the original photo was taken in berlin with the sun shining strong, eating up the seam and providing a little light inside the vehicle. the image was aligned horizontally and a piece was cut out that would make a nice repeating pattern. inverting the image provides this light, white version. slightly shifting the black seam to a light grey helps the readability and gives the pattern a nice overall look and feel. and again, we are extremely happy with it!
admin’s advice: acquiring +30y old recreational vehicles can be challenging and should be considered thoroughly.
concept and realization of a web-based application for a client in Indonesia. content pulled via a (bit dusty) SOAP API and automatically scaled into three quality versions. mobile optimized design interface to place content in print frame. generation of qr code containing print frame meta data. enabling qr code scanner equipped printer to decipher data in code and render it into print image. including options for desktop usage. providing documentation for client to setup own frontend design.
concept and realization of a web-based application for a client in Japan. automatic distribution of orders in a network of printing stations. creating orders from external sources (sftp, local files, aws api). rendering meta data into actual print images. realization of a central administration unit and decentralized operation units. integration of operation unit’s web views into an existing iPad app.
we love patterns!
and the great thing is: patterns are everywhere. from acoustic patterns in music to visual and physical patterns in architecture, digital patterns in software architecture and problem solution to more general patterns in life.
find patterns in your daily business. patterns can be recurring across projects and clients. when discovered, patterns help us save time and can be the basis for fast progress. patterns provide us with confidence. and at the same time patterns are always creating options. with the main option being not to follow the schematic path that is inherent to the pattern, but re-think, re-consider and approach things differently. hereby possibly creating a new, even better pattern.
we started this website with a visual pattern of a topographical map as a repeating background image. today, we changes this to a new pattern. and we plan to change this every once in a while – since we do not provide the world with a sophisticated content creation plan we deeply believe a new background will compensate this loss. the very first topo pattern was a visual reminder for ourselves that there is always ‘up & down’. this second pattern has more street cred to it. we created this one ourselves based on the pattern we found on the south-west side of a local block. we hope you enjoy!
admin’s advice: keep your eyes open and see if you can spot a pattern that is so close to you but hasn’t caught your attention yet. in any case, don’t submit it to us.
banana buckwheat pancakes – a recipe inspired by Donna Hay
input/output. ‘you are what you eat’ and if you want to shine, nothing beats maple syrup pancakes. it’s true! when we have a tough week ahead, here is how we prepare:
120 gr buckwheat flour
100 gr whole spelt flour
3 tbsp. aluminum-free baking powder
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 pinch of salt
200 gr mashed banana (about 3 ripe bananas)
180 ml almond milk
butter for frying
serve with maple sirup and banana slices
try to get as many of these from an organic source.
mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. add mashed banana, egg and almond milk. blend well.
heat a skillet and add a little butter. add three large spoonfuls of batter. let the pancakes cook until the upperside looks opaque – this should take about 3 minutes. then flip the pancakes.
repeat with remaining batter. enjoy warm, drizzled with maple sirup and banana slices.
admin’s advice: the greatness of your pc derives from your skillet’s heat management system.
